HCS Squash AGM Report

Dear members,

We held our AGM last Friday and wanted to share with you what we have achieved over the last year as well as what we are planning for the year ahead.

HSC Achievements and Objectives

2023-24 Achievements

  • An active junior section and hosting junior matches again. A big thank you to Brendan Bradley and Ben Diab.
  • The introduction of the Development Team in the Sussex League.
  • Heating on courts 2 & 3.
  • More events in the annual tournament to encourage more participation.
  • The handicap tournament has changed its format and timing under the title of The Two Pint Trev Tournament. Thank you to Dan West for organising this.
  • Coaching with Jack Martell continues to provide the opportunity for players of all levels and ages to improve their game.
  • We hosted a graded tournament last November and this will become an annual event open to members and non members alike.
  • We hosted a County O’35 event.
  • We can boast an international amongst our membership! Dan West played for England O’35s in the recent Home Internationals.
  • The leagues continue to be run brilliantly by Russell Cooper.
  • Membership has grown from 127 to 150 over the year.

2024-25 Objectives

  • Make team squash available to more with the introduction of further team in the Sussex League. We will be trying to fit in as many Friday night home matches as possible to meet the supporters’ demand!
  • Grow the junior section further through a combination of opening our doors to juniors members from other sections and working through the Office to encourage local schools.
  • Make the courts available for more county events including junior county coaching.
  • Update the club kit for next season.
  • Host an HSC Squash Day for non members to give squash and racketball a go. Followed by court time for the juniors including coaching then an opportunity for some members to play pros and an exhibition match. Food and drink afterwards too! A great opportunity for a potential sponsor!
  • Maintain the courts to the highest level that budget permits. We are aware that Court 1 needs repairs but there wasn’t the budget available at the time and we are working closely with the main Sports Club to meet our maintenance requirements and general upkeep.
  • To grow our membership further!

Regards

Simon, Vince, Dave, Sean and Dean
