HSC Squash News January 2023

A very happy New Year to all our members.

Team news, we have now reached the halfway stage of the Sussex 2022-23 season and the 1st team are sitting pretty at the top of Sussex Division Two West with maximum points so far. Meanwhile the 2nd team suffered a narrow defeat against Midhurst and are joint top of Sussex Division Three West. We will plan to notify you of the home matches to come and give your support to the boys.

Court temperature, sorry that we have all had to put up with such cold courts during the cold snap. We have discovered a fundamental problem with the insulation of the courts, some of which has been there since the courts were built. We are therefore looking to rectify that to keep what heat we have in before we look at further means of creating any extra warmth on court.

Changing rooms, we are in the early stages of working with the Club Office about potential improvements to ensure that they are more user friendly!

Christmas doubles, this was well supported and great fun for all as well as an extended opportunity to burn off the Christmas excess. Well done to the winners Daryl Farmer and Dean Newberry and not forgetting the special award to the “best dressed” competitor, Dave Downman.

Court care, it was very sad to see that a member or a guest used incorrect footwear on Court 1 between Christmas and the New Year leaving unsightly marks on the floor. This is totally unacceptable and we are currently exploring footage as to who has damaged the floor. These are our courts and we need to look after them as if they are your own, please do not be afraid to ask those people who use dirty or footwear that marks the floor to stop playing immediately.

Wishing you a great year of squash at HSC.
